What You Should Know When Booking A Vacation During Hurricane Season

When is hurricane season?

Hurricane Season for the Atlantic Basin (Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico) is scheduled from June 1 to Nov. 30th every year, but storms can occur before or after this window, however it is rare.  The peak hurricane season is around Sept. 10th with the strongest of storms peaking that this time of year, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA).

What are great hurricane tracking resources?

    • Check the weather forecast on multiple channels. A go-to site for locals is www.spaghettimodels.com and is a fantastic resource for combining many different charts, graphs and models so you can make an informed decision.
    • You can also check with your favorite go-to weather app.
    • Always check NOAA for the most scientific and up-to-date information.

Know your cancellation policy

    • Every rental agency and booking engine has different policies when it comes to cancellations and rescheduling. Be sure to ask before you book so you can make a well-informed decision.

Purchase Travel Insurance

    • We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance during any vacation at any time. We love the peace of mind it provides, knowing you and your loved ones are covered.  Vacations are an investment, and we want to make sure your investment and your dreams of a perfect vacation stay protected.  Here at Resort Rentals, we have partnered with Red Sky Travel Insurance and the Sun Trip Preserver Plan.  Here is a list of what you will receive for coverage:

Lastly, vacationing during hurricane season is still loads of fun!  During hurricane season, there are still many festivals, events, sporting events and eco-friendly activities to experience around the St.Pete/Clearwater area!

Speaking of sports, Babe Ruth is quoted as saying, “Don’t let the fear of striking out get in your way.” We all fear the potential for “wind activity” to ruin our best made plans.  Although we can’t predict nor control the weather, we can control our decisions to make lifetime memories together in special places, while knowing we are protected in the event something does arise.

So, what are you waiting for?  Start your vacation planning and live out your vacation dreams!  Resort Rentals has over 200 units to choose from right on the beach!  Head over to our property search to find your perfect getaway!
