St. Pete Pier Run

The St. Pete Pier Run is a 4-mile run/walk event held annually on the 4th of July in St. Petersburg. It’s designed to be a fun and celebratory way to kick off Independence Day festivities. The race is 4 miles, perfect for runners and walkers of all abilities, and the route goes through the scenic St. Pete Pier and waterfront. The event is very family-friendly and patriotic—a great way to combine exercise, beautiful scenery, and celebrating America’s birthday.

There’s a costume contest happening at the event, encouraging participants to dress up in their most fun and patriotic attire. You can win prizes!

    • Most Patriotic Costume

The 2×4 Challenge

The 2×4 Challenge is an optional challenge for runners in the St. Pete Pier Run. It involves running in both Wave 1 (6:30 AM) and Wave 2 (7:45 AM) of the race, which means you’ll be running a total of 8 miles.


Pie Eating Contest

Another fun event happening in the area is the Pie Eating Contest. It takes place at 8:00 am under the finish arch. There are only 20 spots available, so it’s on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s a fun way to add some messy competition to the celebratory atmosphere.


Good to Know

This is a popular event, especially in the evening for the fireworks display, so you can expect crowds. It’s best to arrive early, especially if you want a good spot to watch the fireworks or take part in popular activities.

The event usually includes a Fun Zone with activities for kids, keeping the little ones entertained as you wait for the fireworks spectacle. A big part of the fun is the festive atmosphere with live music and entertainment, which lasts throughout the day.

While there aren’t fireworks directly launched from St. Pete Beach, you can easily admire the spectacle of the St. Pete Pier fireworks display from the beach. For the best views, it’s a good idea to head towards the southern end of the beach, where you can spread out a blanket and enjoy the show.

Busch Gardens Fourth of July Celebrations

You don’t need to wait until the 4th to let your patriotic spirit out. Every year, Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Florida, hosts a 5-day Independence Day celebration from June 30th to July 4th. Every night during the event, there’s a “Summer Nights Fireworks Spectacular” with music and a patriotic finale. 

But there’s much more: shows include the revamped “Cirque Electric” with acrobatic feats and an electric band, and “Turn It Up! Remix” featuring an ice skating show with music and video elements.

Busch Gardens is a favorite of families visiting the area, known for its world-class thrill rides, and the 4th of July means the atmosphere in the park will be even more festive.

Good to Know

The celebratory activities are included in the park admission, but be aware that food and drinks are not included, and you might need to purchase them inside the park, which means higher prices.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is 38.2 miles away from St. Pete Beach, FL. Normally, it takes approximately 50 minutes to get there by car, so plan your transportation accordingly and remember: it’s Independence Day weekend, so there might be lots of traffic.
